Understand Goals and available cash

Learn how MoniTrak separates actual bank cash, money reserved for Goals and the amount that is still available to reserve.

4 min read

BEFORE YOU START

Know what a Goal reservation means.

Goals organize part of your existing cash for a purpose inside MoniTrak. Reserving money does not move funds or reduce the actual balance of the bank account.

✓

Have at least one eligible bank account with cash available.

✓

Goal reservations are tracked inside MoniTrak.

✓

Your bank account's actual balance remains unchanged when cash is reserved for a Goal.

STEP BY STEP

Let's get it set up.

01

Start with the bank's actual cash

MoniTrak starts with the actual cash available in each eligible bank account. This remains the account's real cash balance even when part of it is reserved toward Goals.

ELIGIBLE BANKEveryday Bank
Eligible for Goals
ACTUAL CASHAED 15,000This is the bank account's actual cash position.
◎

Creating or funding a Goal does not transfer money out of this bank account.

02

Separate cash that is already reserved

When you allocate cash to a Goal, MoniTrak records that amount as reserved. The reservation belongs to the Goal, while the underlying bank cash remains unchanged.

ACTUAL CASHAED 15,000
→
RESERVED FOR GOALSAED 9,000
✓

Actual bank cash remains AED 15,000.

◎

Reserved for Goals is an internal MoniTrak allocation. It is not a separate bank balance or bank transfer.

03

Understand Available for Goals

Available for Goals is the part of the bank's actual cash that has not already been reserved toward Goals.

ACTUAL CASHAED 15,000
−
RESERVED FOR GOALSAED 9,000
=
AVAILABLE FOR GOALSAED 6,000

Actual Cash − Reserved for Goals = Available for Goals

◎

Available for Goals helps prevent the same portion of cash from being reserved repeatedly across Goals.

04

See what happens when you reserve more

A new Goal reservation increases the amount reserved and reduces Available for Goals. The actual bank cash still does not change.

NEW RESERVATION+ AED 2,000
ACTUAL CASHAED 15,000Unchanged
RESERVEDAED 11,000AED 9,000 + AED 2,000
AVAILABLE FOR GOALSAED 4,000Still available to reserve
◎

The change happens in MoniTrak's Goal allocation records, not in the actual bank balance.

05

Availability is tracked by bank account

Each eligible bank account has its own Actual Cash, Reserved for Goals and Available for Goals amounts. This lets you see how much each bank can still contribute toward your Goals.

BANK ACCOUNTEveryday Bank
ACTUAL CASHAED 15,000
RESERVEDAED 11,000
AVAILABLEAED 4,000
BANK ACCOUNTSavings Bank
ACTUAL CASHAED 8,000
RESERVEDAED 2,000
AVAILABLEAED 6,000
◎

A Goal can later use more than one eligible bank account when one bank's Available for Goals is not enough. We cover that in the allocation guide.

THE KEY DISTINCTION

Reserved cash changes availability, not your bank balance.

MoniTrak keeps your actual cash visible while separately showing how much has already been committed to Goals and how much can still be reserved.
