BUDGET

Understand your monthly budget

Understand how planned income, budget allocations and recorded spending come together in your monthly budget.

5 min read

BEFORE YOU START

Your budget contains both a plan and actual activity.

Budget amounts describe how you planned to use your income. Actual spending comes from recorded transactions during the selected month.

✓

Planned Income provides the starting amount for the month

✓

Total Budgeted shows how much income has been allocated

✓

Available to Budget shows income that is still unallocated

✓

Actual Spent and Remaining to Spend track activity against the plan

STEP BY STEP

Let's get it set up.

01

Start with your planned income

Planned Income is the amount available for your monthly budget plan before you allocate money to individual expense categories.

OCTOBER 2026Monthly budget
Planning
+
PLANNED INCOMEAED 15,000Starting amount for the monthly plan
◎

Planned Income describes the amount available for budgeting. It is not the same as recorded income in your transaction report.

02

See how much income you have allocated

Total Budgeted combines the amounts assigned to your budget categories. Available to Budget shows how much planned income has not yet been allocated.

AVAILABLE TO BUDGETAED 3,000

03

Separate available to budget from remaining to spend

These two figures answer different questions. Available to Budget is about planning, while Remaining to Spend is about actual spending against your allocated budgets.

PLANNING

Planned incomeAED 15,000
Total budgeted− AED 12,000
Available to budgetAED 3,000
How much planned income has not been allocated?

SPENDING

Total budgetedAED 12,000
Actual spent− AED 8,500
Remaining to spendAED 3,500
How much of your allocated budgets has not been spent?
◎

Available to Budget can change when you change category budget amounts. Remaining to Spend changes as recorded spending is compared with those budgets.

04

Compare your budget with actual spending

Actual Spent comes from recorded transaction activity. Comparing it with Total Budgeted shows how much of your overall budget remains.

Actual spending comes from transactions recorded against the categories included in your budget.

05

Use the summary before reviewing categories

The Budget Summary gives you the overall monthly position. Fixed and Variable sections then explain which categories are using the plan.

READ THE BUDGET IN TWO PARTS

First understand the plan. Then understand the spending.

Your monthly budget separates how income has been allocated from how recorded spending is progressing against those allocations.

Budgeting does not create spending. Actual amounts are provided by the recorded transactions associated with your budget categories.
