Keep the budget amount separate from actual spending

Changing a budget amount changes your plan. It does not create, edit or remove the transactions that provide Actual spending.

Actual spending changes when relevant transaction activity changes, not simply because you changed the budget amount.

◎

Budget is the planned amount. Actual is recorded transaction activity. Changing one does not directly change the other.

ALLOCATE WITH PURPOSE

Category budgets divide planned income into a usable monthly plan.

Each category amount contributes to Total Budgeted while leaving the underlying recorded spending separate.
