Set up your financial workspace

Build the foundation of MoniTrak by adding the accounts, balances and financial activity that make up your everyday financial picture.

BEFORE YOU START

Start with the information you already know.

You do not need to complete every part of MoniTrak at once. Begin with your main financial accounts and build the workspace gradually.

✓

Your main bank and cash accounts

✓

Any credit cards you want to track

✓

Current balances for those accounts

✓

Recent financial activity you want visible in MoniTrak

STEP BY STEP

Let's get it set up.

01

Start with your main bank account

Add the account that holds your everyday cash first. This gives MoniTrak an initial cash position and creates the foundation for the rest of your workspace.

The Accounts Help section provides the full step-by-step process for adding and managing bank accounts.

02

Add the rest of your cash accounts

Add other bank or cash accounts you want included in your financial picture. Keeping accounts separate lets you see individual balances while still understanding your broader cash position.

Accounts can have different purposes and currencies while remaining individually visible in MoniTrak.

03

Add your credit cards separately

Credit cards represent money you owe rather than available cash, so add them separately from your bank accounts. This keeps cash and card obligations clearly distinguished.

◎

Keeping credit cards separate prevents an outstanding card balance from being mistaken for cash you can use.

04

Build the activity behind the balances

Transactions add the financial activity behind your accounts and cards. Categorizing that activity helps MoniTrak organize spending and income for reporting and planning.

You can build transaction history gradually. Start with the activity you want MoniTrak to help you understand.

05

Add recurring commitments when they matter

Recurring payments and installment commitments help keep repeated or ongoing obligations visible alongside the rest of your financial information.

Only add commitments that are relevant to the financial picture you want MoniTrak to maintain.

06

Move into planning once the foundation is ready

With your core financial information in place, you can start using MoniTrak's planning tools. Each one answers a different financial question.

BUDGETPlan monthly spendingDecide how planned income should be allocated.
FORECASTLook aheadModel expected future cash movements.
GOALSReserve existing cashCommit available bank cash toward targets.
◎

You can start using MoniTrak before every planning feature is configured. Add planning tools when they become useful to you.

YOUR CORE WORKSPACE

Build the financial foundation before adding more planning.

Accounts and cards establish your position, transactions and commitments add context, and MoniTrak's planning tools build on top of that information.
